ADP Analysis - Tight Ends In the past years, tight ends usually were not drafted
until much later in drafts but in 2007 there were four TEs who would have been ranked in
the top 20 WRs which is very abnormal and had not been seen in past years. Managers
usually wait until much later in the draft to select their TE because they just dont
score enough points but it will be interesting to see how they react this year. Although
TEs still earn much less points than WRs, there are a few dominant TEs that could be worth
drafting quite early because they dominate the position. Lets take a look at the
charts:
I think its pretty clear that there is a group of
around ten TEs depending on the year that are much better than the rest. In the past few
years Antonio Gates was the only TE drafted in the first three rounds of a draft but
things are likely to change in 2008. I dont believe there is any TE that is dominant
anymore like Antonio Gates had been for the past three seasons. The top two TEs earn on
average 36 more points than the 3rd-10th group in a non-PPR league
and 54 more points in a PPR league but get drafted almost four rounds earlier on average.
If one of the top three right ends are available in the fourth or fifth round they could
definitely be a good pick but waiting until rounds seven to nine to draft one you like is
not a bad strategy either. Lets continue with team defenses and kickers before
making an overall analysis and determining which of the two strategies is better for the
tight end position. |
