ADP Analysis - Kickers and Defenses

Kickers and defenses aren’t drafted in fantasy drafts until the later rounds for the main reason that in most scoring systems they earn fewer points than players at other positions and they are very difficult to predict. However, some scoring systems do give quite a few points for the best defenses so certain owners are starting to draft the top defenses around the sixth or seventh round. The following tables will show why you should not draft kickers and defenses until the last few rounds:

I don’t t think a detailed analysis is required for you to notice that you should wait on drafting both of those positions. These charts show that you should probably be the last owner to draft your starting kicker and draft one you like in the 10 to 12 range and for your defense you should wait as long as you can. Defenses do depend a lot on the scoring system but even if yours is much more defense-friendly than this one, there might only be a 20 to 25 points difference between the top 4 defenses and the defenses you can take in the last rounds of your draft. Now that we have determined the possible strategies at each position it’s time to put everything together and determine the best overall strategy.
