10 Things to Know About QBs After Week 1

All of these numbers are based on statistics since 1999 and apply only to QBs who attempted at least 10 passes in week one.

Note: The top 100 scoring QBs refer to single season statistics and are the equivalent of top 10 QBs in each of the past 10 seasons.

4 reasons not to worry:

-Of the top 100 scoring QBs, 13 completed 50% or less of their attempted passes in week one.
Applies to: Jay Cutler, JaMarcus Russell, Matthew Stafford, Marc Bulger, David Garrard and Jake Delhomme.

-Of the top 100 scoring QBs, 15 did not throw a touchdown in week one.
Applies to: Carson Palmer, Matthew Stafford, Marc Bulger, Matt Schaub, David Garrard and Jake Delhomme.

-Of the 26 QBs that attempted at least 25 passes and averaged between 4.0 and 5.0 yards per attempt in week one, 8 are amongst the top 100 scoring QBs.
Applies to: David Garrard.

-Of the 3 QBs that threw for at least 4 interceptions in week one, 2 are amongst the top 100 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Jay Cutler and Jake Delhomme.

3 reasons not to get too excited:

-Only 9 of the 33 QBs that attempted at least 25 passes and that completed at least 75% of them in week one finished amongst the top 100 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees.

-Of the 42 QBs that had at least 3 touchdown passes in week one, only 19 finished amongst the top 100 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Joe Flacco and Matt Hasselbeck.

-Of the 7 QBs that had at least 350 passing yards in week 1, none finished amongst the top 50 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Tony Romo.



2 reasons to worry:

- Of the top 30 scoring QBs since 1999, only 1 lost a home game in week one.
Applies to: Kurt Warner, Byron Leftwich, Carson Palmer, JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Matt Schaub and Jake Delhomme.

-Of the 26 QBs that had a QB rating of 50.0 or less after week one, none finished amongst the top 70 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Jay Cutler, JaMarcus Russell, Matthew Stafford, Jake Delhomme,

1 reason to get excited:

-Of the 48 QBs who attempted more at least 25 passes and won a road game in week one, 23 finished amongst the top 100 scoring QBs.
Applies to: Tony Romo, Mark Sanchez, Philip Rivers, Kyle Orton and Shaun Hill.
